HNTB Engineer I (Bridge Management) in Princeton, New Jersey

What We're Looking For

At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter to all of us. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee-owners.

This opportunity involves assisting the HNTB Team with the management of a local client's Bridge Inspection Program. This program is inclusive of numerous structure types including bridges, culverts, sign structures, noise barriers, retaining walls, and high mast light poles, and primarily focuses on ensuring quality work by the client’s numerous consultants. The candidate will perform quality control reviews of bridge inspection reports for compliance with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges, and the specific requirements of the bridge owner. The candidate will frequently coordinate with the client and their consultants, respond to requests for information from the client, and also respond to requests for information from NJDOT and FHWA. Also included is the management of the client’s inspection database (Bentley’s AssetWise Inspections), the preparation of annual reports summarizing the condition of the client’s assets, and updates and maintenance of numerous Manuals previously developed by HNTB. The candidate will also review bridge load ratings performed by the client’s consultants, or directly perform bridge load ratings in accordance with client-specified load rating software (AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, and others) and methodology. The candidate will also respond to numerous miscellaneous requests from the client, which may require research, calculations, and collaboration with our existing Team, Client, or client consultants for completion. Note that this position is neither a typical bridge inspection position (Team Leader or Assistant Team Leader) nor a typical bridge design position.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with a background or interest in bridge management and a long-term goal of contributing to our Team's work on this project. Interested engineers with more experience than required should not hesitate to respond. The best and most motivated candidate will be selected, regardless of years of experience.
