HNTB New Grad Tolling Engineer I - December 2023 in Raleigh, North Carolina

What We're Looking For

The time is now to join HNTB! We're seeking an Engineer I - Tolling to join the team out of Raleigh, NC. This individual will have the opportunity to provide staff support to our long-standing client, North Carolina Turnpike Authority. The main function of this position is to process design-build technical submittals and ensure reviews are completed within the contract allowable time. This position works with all NCDOT departments to ensure technical reviews are thorough and accurate. It is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the largest roadway projects in North Carolina history!

What You'll Do:

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.

  • Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.

  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.

  • Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.

  • Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

What You'll Bring:

  • Exhibits an understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline.

  • Attains knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with MicroStation and/or AutoCad or other software.

What We Prefer:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification

  • Knowledgeable in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

Primary Focus Will Include:

Managing Design-Build Submittal Process:

  • Coordinate with design build teams (DBTs) as point-of-contact for all design plans subject to DOT/North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) review

  • Provide status updates, as necessary, during coordination meetings between NCTA and DBTs

  • Notify appropriate reviewers when plans are submitted and when comments are to be returned by

  • Compile comments and transmit the corresponding submittal response back to the design build teams for approval or resubmittal

  • Organize meetings between the design-build teams and NCTA/reviewers should there be confusion, disagreement, or conflict regarding design comments

  • Review and distribute plans to all parties once approved

  • Assist in compiling design information necessary to be included in reports, public meetings, hearings, etc.

Track ROW Acquisitions:

  • Track status of Right of Way acquisition and communicate the level of access, by parcel, to the design build team utilizing the online ROW tool database

  • Track all ROW claims through DOT to ensure payments are processed in a timely manner

  • Serve as a resource for inquiries regarding status of ROW claims, condemnations, access, etc

  • Assist in compiling ROW information necessary for reports, public meetings, etc

  • Utilize GIS, Tax, Property, and Register of Deeds databases to collect property information

  • Assisting in tracking ROW costs and their impacts on the budget

Other Tasks:

  • Use MicroStation to create maps and exhibits

  • Review and/or write applications for financing/grant programs to help fund NCTA projects

  • Assist in reviewing and/or writing project update reports

  • Compile information necessary to respond to public records requests

  • Audit project schedules/submittals/ROW acquisition in order to refute contractor claims

  • Update or Create PowerPoint presentations
